Stephen served as a Storekeeper Third Class, U.S.S. Achilles (ARL-41), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Stephen was "Killed In Action" when the Achilles, while off Samar in San Pedro Bay, was hit by a Japanese kamikaze during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The Achilles survived the attack and the war.
