Mildred K. Young, 46, 1512 Stirling Dr., wife of Jack Young, Delaware county Sheriff and former Muncie Police Department chief, died at Ball Memorial Hospital Thursday evening following an extended illness. She was born in Eaton, the daughter of Charles C. and Bertha Fording Baker, and spent most of her life in the Muncie area.

She attended Riley Elementary, McKinley Junior High and Central High schools and Muncie Business College.

Mrs. Young was employed at the Frank A. Hanley Auto Agency for a number of years and later was Secretary of Local 287, UAW-CIO. More recently she was secretary and bookkeeper in the sheriff's department offices in the Courthouse.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Elk's Auxiliary and Amvet's Auxiliary.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Judith Ann) Beall, Muncie; her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Baker, Muncie; a sister, Mrs. W. Earl Sanders, South Bend; a brother, Charles M. Baker, Muncie; and a nephew, Rick Sanders, South Bend.

Services will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with Msgr. E.J. Cyr officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary after 3 p.m. Friday.
