ALTON N. ERICKSON
(1930 - 2016)

Alton N. Erickson, age 85, long time Howards Grove resident, passed away Sunday February 21, 2016 at Pine Haven Christian Home where he had been a resident the last eight months. He was born in Valders WI on June 5, 1930, a son of the late Anton and Matilda (Thronson) Erickson.

Alton proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1947 until 1951, completing Airplane and Engine Mechanic's School and Propeller Specialist School, stationed in Alaska, attaining the rank of Sergeant, acting as crew chief on B-17 Bombers and other aircraft. After his honorable discharge, Alton completed the DeVry Technical Institute courses in electronics. On October 20, 1951 he married Jeanette Hackbarth. The couple lived in Green Bay, moving to Sheboygan in 1964. Jeanette preceded him in death on April 29, 1987. On July 23, 1988 Alton married June Eisenhardt-Wuestenhagen. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2012.

Alton began his career with the Kohler Company in 1964, and retired from the Generator Division in 1992. He was a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club, Howards Grove Athletic Association and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church as well as VFW Post 9156, Sheboygan. Alton was very handy, and was the go to guy for a fix-it solution. He enjoyed sketching, oil painting and assembling model cars. In later life he made models of his boyhood home, various Churches and a cabin that he and his service buddies shared with the bears in Alaska, all done from memory.

Surviving Alton are his five children; Sharon (Tom) Grasse of Anthem AZ, Jennifer Weissgerber of Sheboygan, Jeanne (Marie Grapetine) Erickson of Manitowoc, Mark (Collette) Erickson of Alpharetta, GA, eight grandchildren; Erica, Jessica, Nicole, T James, Austin, Amanda, Lauren and Zoe, Three great -grandchildren; Jaylyn, Alika and Madelyn. He is further survived by a brother, Orrin Erickson of Kimberly, WI, two sisters, Alice Mae Leider of Manitowoc and Edna Martin of Green bay, his daughter-in-law, Kathy Erickson of Wales, WI, two step-children; Cindy (Larry) Meyer and Dale (Special Friend Jean) Wuestenhagen and step-daughter-in-law Connie Wuestenhagen. In addition to his wives and parents, Alton was also preceded in death by a son, Alton Erickson Jr., a son-in-law, Steve Weissgerber, a step-son, Ernst Wuestenhagen, three brothers; Bennett, Allen and Kennard, and three sisters; Hazel, Florence and Ione.

A Funeral Service will be conducted for Alton on Friday February 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 414 Millersville Avenue Howards Grove. Reverend Tom Unke, Pastor, will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded at the Church on Friday following the service by VFW Post 9156. Friends may call at the Church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Private interment will be in the Liberty West Cemetery, Valders.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in the name of Alton N. Erickson.

The families wish to thank the staff of Pine Haven Christian home and the staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the care he received. Additionally thanks to Dr. Robert Remington, Dr. Joaquin Solis and Dr. Atul Bhatia and their wonderful staffs.
