Residence Botetourt County; 33 years old; dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair.
Enlisted on 5/18/1861 at Mt. Union, VA., he was mustered into Captain P.G. Breckenridge's Company as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company K, 28th Virginia Infantry.)
Present on all Rolls until listed on Nov & Dec 1861 Roll as Absent, "Sent to Hospital at Lynchburg Dec 20."
Absent, Sick at home on Jan & Feb and March & April 1862 Rolls.
Present on May & June 1862 Roll.
Absent, "Sent to Hospital sick" (dysentery) on July & Aug 1862 Roll.
Present on Sept & Oct 1862 Roll.
Absent, Sick in Richmond hospital on Nov & Dec 1862 through May & June Roll.
Absent, sick at home since 12/29/1863 on Nov & Dec through March & April 1864 Rolls (partial paralysis of lower extremities); absence includes 30-day Medical Furlough.
