He had strong work ethic and family values, beliefs he passed on to his two children. Tom was a long time employee of National Airlines in the 1960's and 1970's and a long time employee of Kmart from 1980 until his stroke in 1996. He was a lifetime member of the First District Fire Department of Laurel Bloomery. Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church Mountain City. Prior to his stroke, Tom enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, fishing, and singing or narrating for special services at church. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with his friends and family through email. They often looked forward to receiving weekly email jokes from him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Alexander and Edith Laura Weatherford, and his three brothers James Alexander II, Charles Albert, and Richard Earl Weatherford.
