Ronald "Ron" Todd Nelson, 73, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. Ron was born on March 28, 1942, in Terre Haute, to Elmer Carl and A. Evadine (Todd) Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Todd Nelson Jr.; and a sister, Sandra Delaunois.
Ron graduated from Fayette Township High School in 1960. He joined and proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967. He attended Indiana State University. Ron worked for 20 years and retired from Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) in June 2010.
Ron was a gifted pianist and played for The Gospel Heirs Quartet in 1975. He enjoyed researching genealogy in his spare time. Ron was a devoted father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Roselawn Funeral Home, Terre Haute, Indiana. A private graveside service will be held and Ron will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. A celebration of life service will be held in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29.
