Born about 1882 in Clarksville, Jim was the son of Elisha F. "Lish" BEARD/BAIRD and Jeanette WARD, the husband of Nancy Elizabeth "Nannie" WATTS, whom he married in 1901 in E. St. Louis, IL, and the father of James Russell, Dorothy Jeanette, and Thomas Tucker. Members of this line of the BAIRD family alternatively adopted the surname BEARD and BEAIRD as well as BAIRD.

JAMES M. BEARD, DIED THIS MORNING AT HIS HOME ON FRONT ST., AGED 29 YEARS. HE IS SURVIVED BY A WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN, AND TWO SISTERS, MRS. J. R. POWERS AND MRS. SPENCER NEWHOUSE. FUNERAL WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 2 O'CLOCK SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE RESIDENCE BY REV. W. S. TAYLOR. HE WAS CONNECTED WITH THE RAILROAD AS CAR INSPECTOR. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE MEMBER OF THE METHODIST CHURCH AT BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS, WHERE HE FORNERLY LIVED. HE ALSO BELONGS TO THE ORDER OF BEN HUR LODGE 136 E. ST. LOUIS. THE INTERMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT GREENWOOD CEMETERY AND THE FOLLOWING PERSONS WILL ACT AS PALL BEARERS:
BUCK POSEY, LEM POWERS, JAMES MOSS, HARRY GUNN, WILL SHEPHARD, AND JOHN HOGUE
