Mr. James Brown, age 84 of Marion, passed away January 29, 2005 at his home. A native of McDowell County, he was born on September 13, 1920 to the late Jones Melvin & Ida Rowe Brown.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion.
He was a member and past President of the Kiwanis Club with 35 years of perfect attendance.
He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII with Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army Division. For his service, he received The Bronze Star Decoration with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and The Purple Heart, in addition to other awards.
Mr. Brown was Co-Owner and operator of Brown Motor Company.
In later years he served as an instructor at McDowell Technical Community College and was an avid historian of McDowell County.
His wife Lillian Jonas Brown of the home and seven nieces and nephews survive him.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home & Crematory. The Reverend Ben Curry will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Marion, 176 Robert St. Marion, NC 28752, or Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan St., Marion, NC 28752.
