Gus was the youngest of eight children born to Gottlob and Cora Maier on Oct. 25, 1908. A lifelong resident of White Haven, Gus graduated from Penn State University and New York Law School.
He spent several years as an FBI agent and practiced law before serving in World War II as a naval commander in Saipan. He provided legal services to the area for more than 50 years as an Assistant District Attorney for Luzerne County and as a sole practitioner in Freeland.
Since his retirement, he has enjoyed his life hobbies of traveling worldwide, making wine, attending cultural events, reading and cultivating an organic garden.
Gus is survived by his wife, Esther Seitzinger; and four children, Barbara Remaley and her husband, Bill, of Selinsgrove, Pa.; Albert “Whitey” Maier Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of White Haven; Linda Maier, of Troy, N.Y., and Holly Schreiber and her husband, Don, of Little Silver, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, White Haven, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009. A celebration of Gus’s life will begin at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. William “Chip” Fairchild and the Rev. Dawn Richie.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the White Haven Public Library, PO Box 57, White Haven, PA 18661, or to the Bell Tower Fund of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, White Haven.
