Doris Louise Blakely-Daniel

ALBANY — Doris Louise Blakely-Daniel, was born to the late Lonnie C. Blakely and Pearlene Battle-Blakely on January 1, 1934, in Terrell County, GA. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Lillie Johnson and two brothers, Arthur and Lonnie Blakely.

She attended the public school system in Terrell County and furthured her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in Columbus, GA. Her hobbies were sewing, needle work, quilting and bowling. Her love for sewing and entrepreneurship resulted in her own business, DD Sewing and Alterations.

Later in life she joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Old Field, GA. She later moved to Albany, GA, where she united in holy matrimony to Morton Daniel. They are the proud parents of six children, five daughters and one son.

Doris traveled extensively from the east coast to the west coast with her military husband and children. In 1978 she moved back to Albany, GA and joined the Union Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Deaconess, General Mission Ministries, sang in the #2 and Mass Choirs, served on the #4 Usher Ministry, taught Sunday School, attended Prayer meeting and Bible Study and was a committee member of the Boy Scouts of America. She loved the Lord and was faithful until death.

God called Doris home on Sunday, September 17, 2006. She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Morton; five daughters, Florence (Rev. William) Randolph Jr. of Yellow Springs, OH, Velma (Levelle) Jones of Albany, Rethema (Jeffery) Hardy of Leesville, LA, Nikita (Raymond) Nowden of Jonesboro, Bridget Momodu of Albany and one son, Jacob (Kenyetta) Daniel of Albany; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Leola Bryant, Janie (Eddie Lee) Vickerson, Dorothy (Soloman) Sanders, Eula (Rev. Nathaniel) Jefferson, Rilla (James) Dixon; two brothers, Robert Blakely, Walter (Regina) Blakely; one uncle, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, her mother-in-law, Gertrude Merritt of Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, September 22, 2006, at Union Baptist Church, 214 East Oglethorpe Blvd. with interment in Floral Memory Garden Cemetery. The Rev. J.A. Severson will officiate.

The remains of Mrs. Daniel will be placed in the church for viewing Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
