Adolphus' father, Nelson (Narcisse Chapdelaine) Chaplain, emigrated from Quebec to New Hampshire between 1851 and 1870. Adolphus subsequently moved to Avon, Mass. He and Minnie had 10 children. Adolphus died at a young 46 of blood poisoning and Minnie raised the 10 herself. The boys left school to support the family. My grandfather was 14 at the time.
