Vandergrift
Robert M. "Buck" Bence, 65, of Vandergrift, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights.
Born Oct. 7, 1940, in Apollo, the son of the late Ronald P. and Geneva L. Leasure Bence, he lived in the Kiski Valley all of his life.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Bence was a clerk at U.S. Steel, Vandergrift, before retiring in 2000, and also was employed by Nasers Foods, Apollo.
He was a member of Hutch & Bunner Flintlock Club, Bell Township; Apollo Elks #386, American Legion and VFW, both of Vandergrift, Slovak Clubs in East Vandergrift and North Vandergrift; and Lithuanian Club and Polish Club, both of East Vandergrift.
He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Marilyn S. Madison of Vandergrift; a son, Darin Bence, of Sydney, Australia; and a sister, Linda B. (Donald) Polka of Vandergrift.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Dennis Bence; a brother, Ronald G. Bence; and a sister, Bernice Moore.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME, Apollo, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Darrell Carney will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a military service Thursday at the funeral home.
