Peter Van Amberg Hasbrook, Sr.

East Lansing

Peter Van Amberg Hasbrook, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 in Lansing, Michigan. He was born August 17, 1938 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Edward Francis Hasbrook and Jane Burrall Hasbrook. He was active in scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and showed pride in those he mentored in East Lansing. He was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, class of 1960, member of the ND Marching Band, later serving on the Alumni Senate. He served in the U.S. Army as Lieutenant for two years at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; returned to his employment with IBM in Michigan. Peter retired from IBM after 25 years in sales. He served his church and community as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul society and was with the Michigan Catholic Conference for five years. He was an active Rotarian for fifty years, serving a term as president. After his diagnosis of Parkinsons in 1999, he became an advocate for research funding in Washington, serving for ten years on the Michigan Parkinson Foundation board.

His parents and brother, Thomas Locke Hasbrook, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Roubik Hasbrook; his children Peter V.A. Hasbrook, Jr. (Annette), Anne Hasbrook Smith (Glen), Christopher E. Hasbrook (Kerry); 4 grandchildren: Jack Hasbrook Smith, Piper Julia Hasbrook, Jackson Peter Hasbrook, Harper Brown Hasbrook. Also surviving are his brother Edward F. Hasbrook (Jeanne), and sister Tita Kelly Plouff (Dr. L. Thomas), many nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John Church and Student Center, 327 MAC, East Lansing. The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 PM. In keeping with his wishes, the family requests that no flowers be sent and for donations to be directed in Peter's honor to Michigan Parkinson Foundation or to St. Vincent de Paul, care of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
