Willie was the birth son of William Fulkerson of Galveston. He never knew his birth father. Before Willie was born his father took $500 that his mother had saved and went to the horse race track. He lost all of his money and was to embarrased to return home. By the time Willie tracked him down he had died. Willie was able to talk to some people that had know his birth father. They told him that his father had spent his life working at or around horse tracks. He had spoken about deserting his family and he felt great remorse over his actions.

Alice divorced Willie's dad and married Frederick Speaker of Galveston. Willie and Fred were very close and he changed his name to Speaker.

Willie served in the Merchant Marines during WW II.

Willie's half brother George Speaker often talked about Willie and the close relationship between Willie and Fred.

Fred purchased Willie's first car for him.

Willie never married.
