Bernice Henze, 97, of Yorktown, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday March 3, 2016. She was born February 4, 1919 in Cuero to the late W.P. and Edna Voelkel Schulz.

She was baptized into the faith August 10, 1919 and confirmed April 10, 1938 under the guidance of Rev. Schaws at Nordheim Lutheran Church. She enjoyed going to dances with her friends and it was at one of these dances she met her future husband Norris. On December 20, 1938 she and Norris married and she left the amenities in Nordheim and traded them for life in the country.

Bernice always said she didn’t know how to boil water when she first married, but you would have never guessed as she was an excellent cook. She loved to read and play Skip-Bo. After her Lord and Savior, her family was most important to her and she loved having everyone come to visit on Saturday nights.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Miriam Circle. Until her health wouldn’t allow it, she attended church regularly and was a wonderful Christian example to those around her. She ended each day in prayer, thanking God first for His blessings and closing with the Lord’s Prayer.

Preceding her in death were her infant brother, parents, brother, Lawrence and husband Norris.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Henze and wife Elaine, Dennis Henze, Glen Henze and wife Judy all of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Sue Boldt, Jill Turner, Penny Hill, Brendan Henze and Stacy Henze, four great grandchildren, Haley Turner, Broole Turner, Natalie Boldt and Zoe Henze.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday March 6, 2016 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 am Monday March 7, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Interment will follow at Nordheim Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Louis Boldt, Brendan Henze, Kevin Hill, Alex Bock, Phillip Bock and Dr. John Frels. Honorary pallbearers will be Lindy Voelkel, Shane Turner, Will Sauermilch and Dr. Raymond Reese.
