Murder Victim. Cara Knott was a beautiful, vivacious, 20-year-old college student attending San Diego State University. She was murdered two days after Christmas in 1986 by Craig Peyer, a California highway patrolman. Today, Cara's family continues to fight for victims' rights and keep her killer locked behind bars. While Peyer has maintained his innocence for twenty years, he has refused to submit to voluntary DNA testing that could exonerate him. A bridge in Scripps Ranch was named in Cara's memory.
