Gordon B Myrick, 81, of Big Spring, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 4, 2016 in a Midland hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Gordon was born October 9, 1934 in Big Spring to Jacob Biggle and Velma Clara (Webb) Myrick.
He married Patricia Winterrowd, the love of his life, on August 6, 1961 in Pecos, Texas.
He served his country in the Army from 1957 – 1959.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; mother and father; one sister, Veda Reese; half-brother, Eddie Ray Myrick; half-sister; Kathleen Gilliland; two brothers-in-law, Bert Tucker and Jim Reese; and sister- in-law, Betty Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; two daughters, Kandis Brown and husband, Shane from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Keri Murrell and husband, Ron from North Richland Hills, Texas; one brother, Derwood Myrick and wife, Pat of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Zada Tucker of Farmersville, Louisiana and Kay Sue Gordon and husband, Bill of Plattsburg, New York; a sister-in-law, Gwen Byrd of Cedar Park, Texas; a brother-in-law, Curtiss Winterrowd and wife, Janet of San Angelo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Logan Brown, Peyton Murrell, Makenzie Brown, Spencer Murrell, Zachary Brown and wife, Ciera, Seth Brown, Amanda Murrell Hall and husband, Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon was a life-long resident of Big Spring and was a part of the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Masonic Temple, a member of the Suez Motor Patrol, and played the bass in many different bands throughout the years. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1955 and received his Associates of Art from Howard College. He truly had a love of music, and it came out in everything he did. It was a very big part of his life, starting at home with his father playing mandolin, his brother on steel guitar, and he on guitar. Gordon never met a stranger and always put others before himself. He loved his children and grandchildren and poured his later years into his grandchildren's many activities. He enjoyed reading and rediscovered a fondness of fishing with his brother in the summer time. He also had an appreciation for classic cars and trucks.
He worked for IBM, owned Gordon's Business Machines, Inc., worked at the Big Spring State Hospital and later drove a school bus for the Big Spring Independent School District after he retired.
