He was born August 16, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Walter M. and Geraldine (Houze) Simmons. He joined the Air Force at the age of 17 being honorably discharged. He became a member of the Tuskegee Airman in later life. Clifford worked in restaurant management before retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed life to the fullest, right up until he passed. He joins his parents, brothers Lionel W. Simmons and Larry Washington. His memory will be cherished by his children Joaquin Simmons, LaTonya Ford, Tamiko Knoodle, Kelly Young, Brande Durrah, Ponce Grew, Cassondra Boyd, Ebon Simmons, Loni Che Simmons, Daniel Simmons, Pamela Simmons, his embraced daughter and son, Quintana Clarke and Wesley Simmons; 28 grandchildren; brothers Walter Simmons of San Francisco, CA, LaVerne Simmons of Fairfield, CA, Leon Washington of Saginaw, MI, Gregory Washington of Shreveport, LA, Anthony Gary of Saginaw, MI, Michael Simmons of Saginaw, MI, and sister Ruby Lilly of Los Angeles, CA; sons-in-law Michael Ford of Vallejo, CA, Joseph Ponozzo of San Antonio, TX and David Young of Milford, MI, and daughter-in-law Jo Ann Simmons of San Antonio, TX; his long time friend Diane Allen and many nieces and nephews and very special friends.
Funeral Service will take place 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd., Universal City, TX. A visitation will take place on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Mr. Simmons memory to the family.
