FLORENCE R. HARWOOD
Palmyra, NJ resident

Florence R. Harwood (nee Rose) passed gently from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2006. She was 85 years old.

Loving wife for 58 wonderful years to Raymond A., who preceded her in death in 2002; loving mother of Lois A. Harwood of Palmyra, NJ; loving sister of Doris (Leonard) Hutchinson of Philadelphia, PA, both deceased.

Florence, affectionately known as Flossie, was born and raised in the Frankford section of Philadelphia in 1921. She was a graduate of Frankford High School's class of '39 and worked for ten years as the executive secretary to the Director of Personnel at the University of Pennsylvania. She was a very active member of North Frankford Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and played both the organ and piano. Flossie and Ray met and married there in 1944.

In 1950, Flossie and Ray moved to Palmyra, NJ and in 1953 joined Central Baptist Church, where they led the Junior Youth Baptist Fellowship for many years. Flossie joyfully served her Lord there in many additional capacities, devoting over 30 years as a Sunday School teacher and serving on the Diaconate, Board of Christian Education, the Music Committee and the Dorcas Missionary Circle. The 20 years she accompanied and led the Children's Choirs were her special joy. Whenever called upon, she was always more than happy to serve as pianist for the Sunday School or church.

Flossie dearly loved her friends, family and neighbors, her music and her church. She had an unfailingly optimistic nature, an easy laugh and a kind and generous heart. She took real delight in the company of others and always saw the best in everyone. Her Christian faith was truly the cornerstone of her life and she lived that faith to its fullest each day. She felt a deep calling to minister to the sick, lonely and bereaved. All those in need of remembrance and encouragement were the recipients of her many cards, letters and phone calls.

Friends, neighbors and members of Central Baptist Church are invited to call at WEBER FUNERAL HOME, 112 Broad Street, Riverton, NJ, on Wednesday, September 20th beginning at 1 PM. Life celebration service to follow at 3 PM. At Flossie's request, please no black clothing.

Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ, will be at the convenience of the family.
