In the spring of 1880 he came to Kansas and in November of the same year he was united in marriage to Mattie Jane Highsmith of Howard, KS, who preceded him in death in 1904. To this union was born eleven children, five boys and six girls, Arthur of Howard, Kansas, Ben of a Veterans hospital in Colorado, Frank of Marmarth, N.D., and Hobart of Council Grove, KS, Randall who died infancy; Nellie, who died in 1903, Rosa of Fletcher, Oklahoma, Nora of Elmdale, KS, Ora of Howard, KS, and Mamie Goldie and Ina who died in infancy.
Besides his children he leaves to mourn his departure one brother. W. T. S. Mason of Bicknell, Indiana, Mary Wampled of Bicknell, Indiana, thirty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. The deceased had been in failing health for several years.
He was a kind husband, a loving father and a friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services were held at Salem Free Baptist Church of Paw Paw; Rev. J. S. Bunch of Baptist Church of Howard officiating. Mr. Mason was a faithful member of this church since it was organized. Interment was at Cresco Cemetery.
