CARTER, Martha Jane Age 78 Of Three Rivers
Passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2006 following a lengthy illness.

She was born on January 11, 1928, the daughter of Curtis and Fern (Smith) Kirklin.

Mrs. Carter has been a longtime resident of this area. She taught in the Three Rivers Elementary Schools for over forty years, eventually retiring from Hoppin School.

Martha was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers, where she participated in choir and the Jean LaFranc Circle. Mrs. Carter loved teaching and loved her students. After retirement, she volunteered her time at the Park School Reading Group. She loved to bowl and golf, and was an avid Notre Dame fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband, Robert Carter, whom she married in 1958.

She is survived by her loving family, children, David Kirklin Carter of Grand Rapids, MI, Susan Jane Ball of Chicago, IL, and Janis Wirick and her fiance', Adam Craaybeek of Three Rivers; one brother, Richard Kirklin of Naugatuck, CT; two sisters, Mary Alice Early of Mobile, AL, and Ruth Teser of Pearl River, NY; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Haydon, Robert and Andrew Wirick; three great-grandchildren, Sara, Samantha and Matthew Haydon.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2006 at the Hohner Funeral Home, Three Rivers Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Three Rivers with Rev. Nelson Lumm officiating. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers. Memorials may be donated to the Children of Three Rivers Elementary Schools c/o the Three Rivers Area Foundation. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
