Luther Randolph Askey was found dead in his home at 2749 E. Commerce. Luther's body was found in the front doorway. It is believed that he had been dead for about 3 hours suffering from a stroke. An autopsy taken showed that no foul play was involved.


Funeral services were conducted from St.Paul UMC. Lewis Funeral Home in charge of arrangement. Interment was in Eastview Cemetery.

While at St.Paul Methodist he served as Board of Stewards, Sound Sytem Operator for the church

Luther Randolph Askey a native of Austin Texas was born October 12,1921 to Luther Edgar and Mary Elisabeth Lee Askey and was one of five sons and daughter born to this union. He was a 1939 graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elecrical Engineering at Tuskegee Institute in 1943.


He taught Radio and Televison Repair at St.Phillips College and Eason's Electronics. At the time of his death he was self-employed in Radio and Television Repair in his home.


He was a member of St.Paul United Methodist and was a member of the Methodist Men, Board of Steward and operated the sound system equipment at the church. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,Inc-former President,Treasurer.


His parents and a sister, Doris L. Thompson preceded him in death.


Askey is survived by his son Luther Randolph Askey,Jr, daughter Eleanor Marie Brown, granddaughters, Tellecia Marie Brown and Teresa Denise Brown, sister and brother-in-law, Hazel Marie and James Everett Overton, brotherand sister-in-law, Edgar Lee and Dorothy Askey.
