Willie A. Curtis, 80, Owner/Operator of Curtis - Starks Funeral Home, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Monday, September 26, 2006 at a local hospital. She had been in ill health for several weeks.

The Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 608 North Seventh Street, the Reverend Matthew M. Lubin, Sr., Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Curtis, a resident of Abilene since her childhood, was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, where she served untiringly in many capacities. She took on the leadership of the Curtis - Starks Funeral Home that was established by her parents in 1950. She was a caring, loving, sensitive, wise and kind individual and was highly respected throughout the community.

Mrs. Curtis' memberships included the NAACP, Red Hat Society, Business and Professional Women, Black Women on the Move, and The Order of the Eastern Star. In the late 90's, she was recognized as the Pathfinder, a prestigious award given to ladies who were pioneers and made contributions in their field. Her business activities include the following memberships: Independent Funeral Directors of Texas, Ladies Auxiliary Of International Funeral Directors of Texas, Chaplain of the National Funeral Directors and Mortician Association and Ladies Auxiliary of National Funeral Directors, Founding Member, Board Member and Life Member of the 100 Black Women of Funeral Services, Incorporated.

Her legacy will live on and thrive through her three daughters, Fern Priscilla Miles, Brenda Ray and husband Harold, both of West Palm Beach, Florida and Dorothy Clough and husband Willie of Marshall, Texas; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four nephews; one niece; many cousins, a host of friends, acquaintances and well-wishers.
