Ramon "Ray" Alderman, 85, of Owego, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on March 7, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Barbara Boyd Alderman; a son, Dana Alderman (Bill Congdon) of Charlotte, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Ashley Foley (Andrew) of Nichols, NY; three great-grandchildren, Grady, Ella Rae, and Connor Foley; sister in law, Shirley Reese of Greensboro, NC; several nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Pam Forkey. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin Alderman, as well as his parents and sister. Ray took delight in his family, as well as gardening, and was known as "The Apple Man" for many years having run a successful apple orchard in Owego. He was a graduate of Maine-Endwell High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retiree of IBM. He and Barbara were married for 67 years and spent many years traveling, gardening, and finally taking excellent compassionate care of one another. He will forever be remembered for his pure happiness, his ability to "shoot the breeze" and his incredible sense of humor; what a joy it was just to be around him. He is going to be sorely missed by anyone who was lucky enough to know him. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, March 10, at 1 o'clock at MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. in Newark Valley. Interment will be at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Owego Emergency Squad, PO Box 22, Owego, NY 13827in loving memory of Ramon Alderman. Memories and condolences may also be written in his guest book at macphersonfh.com
