Dennis L. Allen, 69, of Maricopa, Arizona passed away at 1:45 P.M. on Monday, March 7, 2016 at his home. A resident of Maricopa, Arizona for the past five years and former longtime resident of Gilbert, Arizona and Rock Springs, Wyoming, Mr. Allen died following a brief illness. He was born on October 2, 1947 in Marshall, Missouri, the son of the late Clayton and Doris Allen. Mr. Allen attended and graduated W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. He married the former Jeanne Merrell in Las Vegas on October 9, 1994 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2007. Mr. Allen was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He served from November 1, 1966 until July 31, 1969 when he received his Honorable Discharge. He was employed as a Highway Patrolman for the State of Wyoming for twenty-three years, retiring on October 1, 1997. While in Rock Springs, he was a member of the First Congregational Church and in Arizona became the Chairman of the Board at the Maricopa Community Church. He was a member of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association and the Masons. His interests included spending time with his family, he enjoyed his cars, eating out and helping people. Survivors include one son Ryan Allen and wife Jennifer of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one step-son Philip Merrell and wife Samantha of Green River, Wyoming; one daughter Andrea Kirkwood and husband J.R. of Laporte, Colorado; step-daughters Leslie Cover and husband Jerry and Marjorie Dimick and husband Justin all of Green River , Wyoming; grandchildren Kellen, Julia and Kaden; step-grandchildren Sheridan, Robert, Devyn, Morgan, Shelby and Thomas; several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Eric Allen; one brother James Allen and a grandniece Cassandra Beckman. Following cremation, a celebration of his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Maricopa Community Church, 44977 W Hathaway Avenue, Maricopa, Arizona 85739. Pastors Stephen Adamson and Michael Hunt will conduct the services.
