Vernon Thomas Luke, Machinists Mate first class, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died December 7, 1941, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37).

Vernon Thomas Luke was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on August 22, 1898, to Samuel and Katherine (Nelson) Luke. He was the oldest of five children which included a brother, Hamilton, and three sisters: Florence; Doris; and Kathryn.

At 17, his father signed him into the Army during World War I. He spent a year in the Army and seven years in the Navy during and after that war.

He married June Edna Luke in California and operated a gas station/oil business in Turlock, California. He lived there until called to active duty as a Naval Reservist about 18 months prior to his death on December 7, 1941. He served in the Hawaiian Islands, assigned to the USS Oklahoma. They had no children.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Punch Bowl National Cemetery of the Pacific. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Woolsey Mortuary Services, Honolulu and locally by Cotter Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the USS Oklahoma Memorial in Honolulu, HI.
