War of 1812 Soldier

Married in Assonet, Mass., June 22, 1800, to Betsey Brightman, of Assonet, Mass, daughter of George and Lydia (Barnaby) Brightman.

Their children were:
1st - Abigail, born June 13, 1801.
2nd - Joseph, born February 8, 1803.
3rd - Caroline, born February 17, 1805
4th - Gardner, born February 14, 1807
5th - Nathan, born, July 4, 1809
6th - Charles, born February 15, 1815
7th - Bradford R., born January 27, 1816
8th - Aaron, born 1818; died in childhood.
9th - Henry B., born March 26, 1820.

The family moved from Rhode Island to Washington County, Ohio, about the year 1818. It is supposed that the children of Gardner Durfee were all born in Tiverton, R. I., except Henry Brightman, who was born in Washington County, Ohio, in the year 1820. The family was left in very reduced circumstances, and it was a hard struggle in a new country. Later they moved to Athens County, Ohio, which has been considered the old home of this Durfee family.
