Born June 21, 1931, in East Liverpool, a son of the late James William Turner and Barbara May Franklin Turner Rodell, he was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1951 and a lifelong area resident.
A retired Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. lab worker, he had previously worked at Crucible Steel and McIntosh-Hemphill.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Rochester during the Korean Conflict. He later served as a president of the U.S.S. Rochester Association.
A one-time senior warden at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, he also served as an altar boy in his youth.
Mr. Turner organized the Calcutta Bulldog little league football team and served as its head coach for many years.
A member of the East Liverpool Area YMCA, he enjoyed swimming.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Chesnut Turner, whom he married March 18, 1956.
Two daughters, Becky Thompson and her husband, Don, of East Liverpool, and Debbie T. Mayers and her husband, Tom, of Wellsville, survive.
Also surviving is a sister, Barbara Fischer and her husband, Fred, of East Liverpool.
He had two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces, nephews and God-children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Flippo, Lucy Chambers and Mary McGrew; and one brother, William Turner.
The Rev. Steven McKeown will conduct services at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 p.m. Thursday until the time of services. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.
