According to her original marriage record in the books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Illischestie, Bukovina, Austria (now Illesesti, Romania), Regina Sabolta (at times AKA "Sabotta", "Sabolka" or "Saboski") was born on December 4, 1860 in Arbora, Bukovina, Austria, to Wenzel and Marie (Ney) Sabolta. Sometime later they moved to Illischestie, also in Bukovina, as they were living there in house number 124 in 1885.

It was in Illischestie, on April 7, 1885, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, where Regina was married, in a double wedding, to Jacob (Jake) Ast. (Note: The Ast surname was changed to Aust sometime after they emigrated to America.) They were married by Rev. Gorgon, who at the same time married Jake's sister Elizabeth to her first husband Johann Roos.

Regina and Jake lived in Illischestie for a short time. There, their first child Franz (Frank) was born on New Years Day in 1886 (some records show Frank's birth year as 1885, others show it as 1886. On the Werra's passenger list he's listed only in months, so that would make his birth year 1886.) Later in life, Frank married Ida Nancy Black, and they lived in Lewis County, WA where he was a farmer. They had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Frank has a memorial on Find A Grave - Memorial# 68893211.

Jake, Regina, and Frank emigrated to America, arriving in NYC on June 26, 1886 aboard the Ship Werra, which had sailed from Bremen, Germany. Jake's brother Philipp and his family, as well as other members of Jake's family accompanied them on their voyage.

When Regina, Jake and Frank arrived, they immediately set off for Ellis County, KS., where they settled in or near Ellis, and stayed for about a year. During that time, in June 1887, their daughter Emma was born there. (Later in life Emma left the family and moved to Seattle where she worked in the office of a lumber company, and was never heard from again. As luck would have it she was located in 2016 when her granddaughter and her half-brother William's grandson found each other. Unfortunately by then, Emma, who was then known as Emmy Lou Thomas, had passed away in 1982 in Santa Cruz, CA. See Find-A-Grave Memorial 164482070.)

Shortly after Emma's birth, Regina, Jake, and their 2 children set off for Lewis County, Washington. They settled in Pe Ell. There they had two more children: Ella in October 1890 (who never married and died young - in 1909), and Margaret M. "Minnie" in January 1892. (Minnie later married Dobbin Irwin and moved to Oregon with him. Unfortunately, they were divorced, after which Minnie married Clifford A. Ray. See Find-a-Grave memorial 159155335.)

Tragically, in December 1892, in Pe Ell, Regina was crushed to death against the side of a stall by a frightened horse. According to her daughter Ella's obituary, she was buried in Pe Ell, as Ella was buried next to her mother in Pe Ell.
