IVINS, Utah--John Jerrold McKean, 65, died at home June 1, 1997 after a courageous fight with cancer.

He was born November 9, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of John Harvey McKean and Wildavine Florence Davidson. He married Dana Sue Powell, June 5, 1955, they were later divorced. He married LaDean Chapman, November 19, 1981. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

He was active in the LDS Church where he served faithfully as a stake missionary and Stake Mission president. He was a temple worker and a member in a number of Bishoprics. He received his education in Salt Lake City Schools. He graduated from South High where he was a track star. He attended Westminster College, University of Utah and then graduated from Weber State in Ogden. Jerry was an accomplished musician. He owned Professional Music Supply in Ogden where he taught many young people how to play the instrument of their choice. He was also employed by the United States Forestry Department. Jerry loved Wildlife, camping, fishing and oil painting.

He is survived by his wife, LaDean; two sons; five daughters; three stepsons and 24 grandchildren; Mrs. Rocky (Debbie Sue) Walker; Mrs. Kerry (Pixie) Calderwood; John Douglas McKean; Mrs. Scott (Janie) Thomas; Michelle Chadwick; Jerry Edward McKean; Allen Dean Christensen; Steven Jay Christensen; and James Balton Christensen; father, John Harvey McKean of Salt Lake City; one sister, Shirley Negas, Magna.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday, June 4, 7-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. 673-4221. Friday, June 6, 7-9 p.m. at Lindquist Mortuary, 394-6666 and Sat., 9-10 a.m. at Lindquist Mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah.
