Ruby Mae Salazar passed away in Edmond, Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the age of 90 years. Ruby was the daughter of Bert Clinton Smith & Ira Nettie (Martin) Smith, born on November 16,1925, in Seminole, Oklahoma, where she was reared and attended schools.

She lost her mother at the age of 9, and was brought up by her grandmother, Mary Jane Martin. She was married to Fred A. Salazar on May 11, 1942, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. They lived for a while in Oklahoma City, and then in San Francisco and Orange, California, where Ruby worked many years for ITT Microelectronics as a Line Supervisor. After retirement in 1982, they returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Holdenville.

Ruby’s favorite pastime was bowling. She belonged to two separate leagues in Shawnee, and last December was presented with a bowling pin autographed by many friends, a gift she treasured. She was a homemaker at heart, and loved taking care of her home. Above all, she loved taking care of Fred, her beloved sweetheart and husband of 73 years. She was of the Methodist faith.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Bert & Ira Smith; her infant daughter, Yvonna Nadine Salazar; three brothers: Raymond Smith, Earnest Smith, Kenneth Smith, and one sister, Betty Crabtree; her grandmother, Mary Jane Martin.

She is survived by her husband, Fred A. Salazar, of the home; three children: Jim Salazar (Marsha) of Holdenville, Catherine Gail Hotop of Riverside CA, and Christopher Allen Salazar (Kathy) of New Concord KY; seven grandchildren: Matthew Salazar of Whidbey Island WA, Brenda Salazar of Oklahoma City OK, Amanda Hotop, Philip Hotop, Cody Hotop, all of Riverside CA, Alex Salazar and Allison Salazar of New Concord KY; three great grandchildren: Matthew Salazar Jr., Rebecca Salazar, and Lucas Salazar, all of Whidbey Island WA; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 14, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the Holdenville Cemetery Chapel, and Ruby will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. Marvin Hudson officiating.
