Elvira "Ellie" Ennis was the oldest child of George Washington Ennis aka Wash and Jeanetta Whittington both from Kentucky. Ellie married James C. Davis 1864 in Waverly. They had eight children; from the 1870 census were George, Barbara, Claude and Anne;from the 1880 census, Rucker, Jenettie Alice, Mary Eliza, and Maggie.

In 1874, her husband James C. Davis was arrested and found guilty of participating in a horse thieving ring and sentenced to 5 years in the Penitiniary, Elvira had a mental breakdown and all the children were bound out to persons living near Waverly except the baby who stayed with her. This probably caused Elvira to divorce James C Davis.

Before the 1880 Census, Ellie divorced her husband, James C. Davis. In the 1880 U S Census, Ellie is living in Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri with her 3 young daughters: Jeanettie Alice; Mary Eliza; and Margaret Emerson "Maggie". Ellie was earning her living as a dressmaker. After the 1880 census, she may have remarried twice.

Her children
Jenettie Alice must have moved to Kansas City, Missouri as that is where she married her husband Charles Henry Ward, raised a large family and died in Oklahoma. Her brother, Claude E. Davis ended up in Chicago and Mary Eliza also went to Chicago and married Peter Anderson and was buried in same cemetery as Claude. Daughter Maggie ended up in Erie County, Ohio where she was married to Merton Darrow and they raised the youngest son of her brother Rucker after his wife died from complications of child birth. Maggie is buried in same cemetery as her father James C. Davis. Bertha Wright Davis, wife of Rucker Edward Davis, was buried in Lorain County, Ohio . Rucker Edward Davis after his wife's death, he put his children in orphanages and moved to La Salle, Illinois in 1918, he was buried in same cemetery as his brother Claude E. Davis in Chicago. Do not know what happened to Rucker's daughter Hazel -cannot find her in 1920 census but in 1930 she is living with her older sister in Chicago where she marries --she follows the older sister out to California where she dies.

From the article she died 1890, probably no stone was placed for Ellie.
