Was Operated Upon in February and Failed to Rally
Mrs. J.D. Sweat, 437 East Third St., passed away at 3 o'clock this morning at her home after a lingering illness. Death came directly as a result of cancer. Mrs. Sweat was operated upon at the Galesburg Hospital on February 20.
Etna Sylvania Dow was born near Stockton, IL, October 12, 1870. Her early childhood was spent in Stockton, where she received her education. In 1888 she was married to E.S. Frederick in Wisconsin and for 15 years the couple lived in Savannah, IL. To the union three children were born, Mrs. George Mundmeiler, Eskel Frederick and Arieta Frederick, all of Galesburg.
In 1904 she came to Galesburg and was married to J.D. Sweat, who survives to mourn the death. The deceased had made her home in Galesburg, where Mr. Sweat was the proprietor of a confectionary store. Mrs. Sweat was an active member of the Yeomen of America, Council 134, of Galesburg. She is survived by L.A. Sweat and Mamie Sweat of Galesburg, step-children; Ronald and Dorothy Mundweiler, Janice and Jacqueline Frederick and George Sweat of Galesburg, grandchildren; and the following brother and sisters: W.F. Dow, Jerome, Idaho, Mrs. D.E. Seller, Savannah, IL, Mrs. W.J. Vanderhevden, Stockton, IL.
The funeral services will be held at the home, 437 East Third Street, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. M.B. Leach will have charge of the services.
