Mr. Kenneth Karl Neitzel was called by his Lord at the venerable centenarian age of 101 years 2 months and 10 days on March 2, 2016.
Kenneth Karl, the son of Carl and Hazel Neitzel, was born December 21, 1914, in Baraboo. He was the oldest of seven children.
He attended and graduated from Baraboo High School.
Ken was a veteran of World War II. Following his discharge, he went to work for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. But He was called back by the military to serve in Korea. Upon his second discharge, he went back to work at the same agency. He worked in Wisconsin, Washington, D.C. and Champaign, Illinois.
Before returning to Wisconsin from Korea, Ken found the love of his life. He and Miss Helen McElroy, daughter of Edward and Nellie (Polak) McElroy, were united in marriage on November15, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. She predeceased him in 2008.
He retired in Illinois as the USDA State Administrator for SCS after which they moved to Edina in 1970.
Ken and Helen devoted their lives to the Salvation Army Church and practiced the Salvation Army motto "Heart to God and Hand to Man".
He is survived by: the youngest sister, Maxine of Peru, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a service celebrating his life at The Salvation Army Noble Worship Center, 10011 Noble Parkway, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
Visitation for family and friends of Mr. Kenneth Karl Neitzel will be held on Saturday, March 12th, 2016, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with services promptly at 11:30 a.m. at Russo's Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (between Mannheim and Wolf Road).
Ken will be buried in The Salvation Army Cemetery (Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery) in Chicago, IL next to his beloved wife Helen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made in his name to:
