George H. Gries, Sr., 71, of Lower Mifflin Township, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, in his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1927 in Carlisle, he was the son of the late John A. and Sue A. Lerew Gries.
Mr. Gries, a graduate of Carlisle High School, Gries worked at Carlisle Shoe Factory for 23 years and at AMP Inc. for 25 years as a laborer. He also was a farmer.
Mr. Gries was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carlisle, Big Spring Lodge No. 316 F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Harrisburg, AARP and was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce E. Losch Gries; three sons: George H. Jr., Wallkill, N.Y.; John C., Pottstown; and Donald A., Shippensburg; two daughters: Linda K. Waggoner, Carlisle; and Pamela J. Handshew, Newville; eight grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J.s.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle, with Rev. Richard A. Ruff and Rev. Sharon Kelly officiating.
Burial will follow in Kutz Cemetery, Carlisle.
