Formerly of Vandergrift

George A. Hill, 92, formerly of Vandergrift, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born March 1, 1914, in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late John L. and Anna May McCutheon Hill.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy as a radarman third class, and was a survivor of the ship L.S.M.-15.

He worked for Herco Co. in Hershey for six years before retiring in 1979. He was formerly employed at the Milton S. Hershey School for 11 years and the U.S. Steel plant in Vandergrift and Irvin Works for 20 years.

He attended St. Luke Lutheran Church in Saxonburg, and was a lifelong, active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Vandergrift, and a member of its choir. He was a member of the Apollo Elks, the Vandergrift VFW, East Vandergrift Sing-A-Long and Concordia Chorus. His interests included playing golf and bowling and singing in choirs.

Surviving are a son, Edward L. Hill (Terri) of Newark, Del.; a daughter, Judith Eshelman of Leechburg; six grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aida (Riggle) Hill, in 2000; three brothers, Ira "Lefty," Lawrence "Dutch" and Vernon "Pete" Hill; and an infant sister, Laura Ann Hill.

Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in CLAWSONS, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Gustafson officiating.

Interment will follow in Poke Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Washington Township.
