Born to eternal life on June 8, 2014. Mary Elizabeth Casey Brennan was born in 1928, the only child of John and Elizabeth Casey of Milwaukee. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School, Mercy High School and Marquette University. Mary graduated from the Marquette School of Journalism and completed the coursework required for a Masters degree in journalism before marrying fellow graduate Gale Brennan in 1953. Prior to starting a family Mary worked the society-page desk at the Milwaukee Sentinel.
Gale and Mary Brennan's family grew to include eleven children, all of whom attended St. John Vianney Grade School in Brookfield and either Divine Savior Holy Angels High School or Marquette High School in Milwaukee. Once her youngest child was enrolled in elementary school, Mary resumed her career as an editor. She was employed in that capacity at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans in Brookfield for more than 20 years. Her retirement was commemorated at a gala celebration held at the Wauwatosa Women's Club in 2002. In retirement, among many other pursuits, Mary served as a volunteer tutor at the Laubach Literacy Center in Milwaukee.
Gale Brennan died in 1990. Gale and Mary's oldest child, Katherine Dillig, died in 2010; Peter, an infant son, died in 1959. Mary Brennan's surviving children, who were at her side when she passed from this life (and their respective spouses), are Bridget (Douglas Jensen), John (Kaori Yashiro), Brian (Nola Barber Brennan), Patrick (Brigid Brennan), Maura (Michael Macander), Maggie (Joe Delia), Sheila (Kevin Conroy), Terry (Brendan Conroy), Joel (Audra Millen Brennan) and Sarah (Brett Lankford). Mary's children and their families, including her 34 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, join her other relatives and her many, many friends in mourning her passing and honoring the memory of a gentle, gracious, open-hearted woman whose legacy will surely endure.
