Sgt. Dale R. Holcomb, 45, Bidwell, Ohio died on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Gallipolis, OH from injuries he received in an auto accident
He was born March 7, 1961 in Zanesville, Ohio, son of Rodney and Bertha Latta Holcomb of Crooksville, Ohio. Dale was married to Connie Taylor Holcomb in 1987 at The Plains, Ohio.
He was a Sergeant in the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the Gallipolis Post. He was a 1979 graduate of Crooksville High School and graduated from Ohio University majoring in criminology in 1984. On April 22, 1985 he started his career as a cadet dispatcher at the Lancaster Post. On November 4, 1985 he entered the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy Class #115; on March 21, 1986 he was commissioned as a trooper serving at the Athens Post. On May 4, 1992 he was promoted to sergeant and was transferred to the Gallipolis Post. In 1990 he was the Post Trooper of the Year, 1990 Jackson District Trooper of the Year, 1990 he was presented the Outstanding Leadership Award by The Plains, Ohio V.F.W.
He was a member of the Athens Masonic Lodge, The Athens Shrine, the Gallipolis Gun Club; Dale was the Co-Chairman for the Quality Schools for Quality Kids Campaign.
He was the past president and coach for the Bidwell Baseball Association. He was a very avid supporter of the River Valley High School athletics having kept the books for the basketball team to running the chains in football doing what ever it took to help the kids. Dale was an active supporter of the Gallia County Jr. Fair. He loved to camp and he loved the River Valley Raiders.
Dale is survived by his wife Connie Holcomb of Bidwell, sons Tyler Holcomb and Trent Holcomb at home, his parents Rodney and Bertha Holcomb of Crooksville, one brother Dean (Brenda) Holcomb of Crooksville, his mother and father-in-law Helen and Clarence Taylor of Bidwell and a host of friends.
Services will be on 2 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the University of Rio Grande Lyne Center under the direction of Pastor Steve Little and Pastor Bob Fulton. Burial will follow at the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 4 until 8 pm at the First Baptist Church in Gallipolis Ohio. There will a graveside service conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers will serve as Pallbearers.
Services are under the direction of the Willis Funeral Home.
