Starting in life Mr. Black studied engineering and engaged in surveying work in 1882, through the northwest to the Pacific coast. Banking business, state of Washington in 1886. Entered the George A. Fuller company in 1896 as vice-president. Was projector of the enlarged corporation of same name with 20,000,000 capital stock. When this company was merged with the United States Realty and Improvement Company, Mr. Black became chairman of the board of the larger organization. He has since retired from active business, although still a director of this company, also the M. K. and T. and C. and O. railway companies, the Alliance Realty Company, the Plaza and Copley Plaza Operating Companies, Bowman Hotel Corporation and the Dolores Esperanza Corporation. Mr. Black is a democrat in polotics and a well known Mason. His clubs include the Metropolitan, Manhattan, (governor), Lawyers, (governor), New York Yacht, City Midday, Automobile, Chamber of Commerce, Pilgrims, Metropolitan of Washington, Chicago of Chicago, and the Travellers of Paris. He is an ardent sportsman and a regular visitor to Miami of many years' standing.

Harry St. Francis Black became President of the George A. Fuller Company and Chairman of the Board of the United States Realty and Improvement Company of New York on the death of George A. Fuller in December of 1900. He was born in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada the son of Thomas Black, a British army officer who settled in Canada in 1834 and Elisabeth Wickens of England. The family was originally from Belfast, Ireland. Mr. Black went to New York at a young age and married Miss Allon Mae Fuller, daughter of George A. Fuller. They divorced and Harry later married Isabel Louise May, daughter of Henry May and Isabel Theresa Coleman. His primary residence was on the 18th floor of the Plaza Hotel in New York City of which he was a key figure in the construction of. He passed away at the age of 66 in the bedroom of his summer residence, Allondale, in Huntington, Long Island, New York, the victim of an apparent suicide.
