ALFRED (FRED) STANLEY FARRELL passed away in Riverside, CA Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the age of 97 years.
Fred was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Wednesday, May 8, 1918 to the late Romeo C. and Athala LaRue Farrell.
One of six children, the family moved to the Los Angeles area when Fred was very young. Upon graduation from high school, Fred was employed by a local newspaper in the advertising and editorial departments and advanced to a management level.

In 1942, Fred entered the United States Army and was assigned to the 36th Infantry Division and rose to the rank of Captain. Among other honors, during World War II, he received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. During the Korean Conflict, he earned a Bronze Star and Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars along with other meritorious recognitions. He was honorably discharged July 7, 1955.

Fred married Mary Lois Wallace November 1, 1956, in Houston, Texas. They were married 25 years when she preceded him in death.

In 1960, having relocated to California, Fred was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1977 as a Manager of Station/Branch Operations.

Fred was active in the B.P.O. Elks Riverside Lodge No. 643 and was a valued member for 34 years. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1988-89. He served as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the South East District and from 1994-95 he served as the State Vice-President. Fred was a life member of Riverside Lodge, very involved in Lodge activities and still attended Lodge functions until his later years.

Memorial Services with Military Honors will be conducted Sunday, March 13, 2016 in the Lodge Room of Riverside Elks Lodge No. 643 with Past State President Frank Keller and the Past District Deputy's officiating. Private inurnment will be in Riverside National Cemetery.
