Aged Pioneer Passes

Mrs. J. A. Burge died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Flowers, after a prolonged illness. She was one of the pioneers, of the Pacific Northwest, having crossed the plains with her husband and family in 1852.

In 1870, the family moved to Dayton, Washington Territory and came to Colton in the year 1882. Her husband died in 1883.

She leaves two daughters and one son. Her oldest daughter, Mrs. W. S. Johnston, lives at Sunnyside, Washington, and her son, Hiram Burge, lives at Toppenish, Washington. Her youngest daughter, Mrs. John L. Flowers, lives at Colton, where she made her home. She was 89 years, 10 months and 2 days old.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. A. Gailey in the Methodist Church at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning and was attended by a large number of friends of the family. She was laid to rest in the Colton Cemetery beside the grave of her husband.
