Obituary
Unidentified Newsclipping - 1876
CAMPBELL.--Mrs Charlotte Campbell, wife of Matthew Campbell, and daughter of Adam and Lavinia Van Slyke died of consumption, in Rockford, Ill., June 28, 1876, aged 41 years.
Sister Campbell was converted to the religion of the Lord Jesus, during a protracted meeting held here in 1852, under the care of Rev. John P. Newman, and since then lived a devoted Christian life. Charlotte was an only daughter in a family of five children, three of whom in early manhood, were taken from earth to the spirit land. One only remains to the aged pair who have cared for their children so tenderly, and who love them as kind hearted parents only can. In addition to the present sorrow of this afflicted circle but three months since, the only son of the deceased, a young man of twenty-two years, was brought home from their western home for burial. How sad! What a burden of grief to the husband and father, thus left with an only daughter of thirteen years! How sad to the aged pair, brother and sister Van Slyke, who have borne burden after burden of grief until it would seem they are left almost alone in the world. May God bless the afflicted husband and bring him to Christ? May he care for the motherless child and sustain the aged mourners and conduct them all safely to the rest which remains for the people of God.
