Muriel Chamberlain, 84, passed away in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Muriel A. Chamberlain, a long time resident of Des Moines, died peacefully Wednesday the 16th of March in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Born on October 8th, 1931, in Long Island, New York. She attended her first church service at one week old and faithfully continued to do so until her passing.

She went to Public School 35 in Hollis, Long Island. Attended Jamaica and Western Hills High Schools, and later, Cincinnati Bible Seminary, in Ohio. She also took courses at several local colleges in Des Moines, including Drake University.

In 1958, Muriel and her mother moved to Des Moines to be closer to her two sisters.

She cared for her mother here for over 50 years, and will be interred beside her.

It is here where she felt most at home, establishing many relationships with friends, coworkers, and church members.

She worked as a customer service representative at NorthWestern Bell for 33 1/2 years before retiring.

Throughout the years Muriel volunteered with numerous organizations, including: Cross Roads Ministries, the Republican Party, as well as various local Christian organizations.

She enjoyed Mission work, walking, and gardening, and was especially fond of roses.

Muriel is survived by three older sisters: Dorothy Gaige (Husband Franklin), Helen Casey, Mildred (Mickey) Hayworth (Husband Herman), as well as five nieces and six nephews. In her last years, she was cared for by her youngest niece, Nancy Riesterer of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Graveside Services will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday March 24, 2016 at 2:00PM.

In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to International Disaster Emergency Services.
