Frank A. Cancelliere was born on June 27, 1948, to Fannie and Frank Cancelliere. His home of record is Belleville, NJ. He had two brothers, Joseph and Robert. Frank graduated Belleville High School and worked for the Belleville Tool Corporation before joining the Marines.
He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in September 1967, and attained the rank of Corporal (CPL). On March 17, 1968, he received his orders to Vietnam with Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force RPO San Francisco.
Cancelliere was killed in action on March 15, 1969, near Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. He died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the head and body from a friendly grenade that was accidentally detonated in the chow line at the mess hall.
He is buried in the Belleville Avenue Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ. He leaves also two brothers, Joseph of Belleville, and Robert of Newark.
