Rick Henderson, 63, of Hobbs, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Ricks Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday October 23, 2014 at Crosswinds Community Church with Pastor Mick Cavanaugh, officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday the 22nd from 5:007:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.
Rick was born on August 15, 1951 in Crosbyton, Texas to Willis Rufus, Jr. and Bessie Mae Henderson. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Rick married Roberta Whinery on March 22, 1980 in Hobbs and they celebrated over 34 wonderful years of marriage. He was a graduate of College of the Southwest and worked at Lea County Correctional Facility as a teacher, GED examiner and acting director. Rick also worked at WalMart. He enjoyed watching military and science fiction movies. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janette.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Henderson, of the home daughters, Dawn Henderson of Hobbs, Tasha Pilcher, Jessie of Eunice, Tina Fletcher, Alan of Garfield, AR and Lori Phillips,Pete of Anderson, MO son, Nathan Henderson, Jillian of Hobbs and 8 grandchildren.
