Harrison Rich Baker Sr. was an influential businessman who during his lifetime was known as the "Father of California Freeways". During the late Nineteen Thirties Mr. Baker, along with Congressman Carl Hinshaw, William Dunkerley and Edward S. Gratain, promoted construction of California's first freeway, the Arroyo Seco Parkway (later renamed Pasedena Freeway) which opened on December 31, 1940.
