Arthur "Art" Louis Ames passed away on March 17, 2016, at Providence Hospital. Art was born on May 7, 1943, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lila and L.C. Ames, where he attended Pocatello High School. He joined the Army in 1959, and was sent to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, after basic training. There he met his future wife and love of his life, Jean Gary. Art and Jean were married on Oct. 25, 1962, and spent more than 53 wonderful years and had three children together. Art worked as a Teamster until his retirement in 1991. He and Jean owned a coffee shop together called "Jean's Coffee Beans," where he made many lifelong friends. Art loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He found peace in fishing, camping, woodworking, watching NASCAR and taking care of his yard and beautiful garden. Blessed with a big, good-humored family, Art is survived by his wife, Jean Ames; his children, Robin (Ron) Maclure, Scott (Darlene) Ames and Kelly (Kathy) Boyles. Unfortunately, his son, Craig Ames, lost his battle with cancer just two days after Art's passing. Art is also survived by his stepfather, Robert Trotter; brother, Brent (Brenda) Ames; sister, Brenda Kuntz; siblings-in-law Pam (Larry) Brink, Debbie Ide-Paul, Terry Mundt, Greg Ide, Dennis and Don Bennett. Art had many grandchildren and is survived by Doug (Amanda) Boyles, Ryan and Kenny Michlig, Devynn and Seth Maclure, Cristina (Josh) Day and Damon and Emily (Jesse) Ames; and great-grandchildren, Jayden Boyles, Blake Michlig and Aurora and Anastasia Day. Art had many nieces and nephews, including Cyndi "LuLu" Harris and Justin (Rachel) Brink. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lila Trotter; father, L.C. Ames; brother, Johnny Trotter; sister, Gloria Robinson; and brothers-in-law, Doug and Mike Ide. Art's smile and quick wit will be missed by so many as he has gone to be with our Lord. His family would like to thank the doctor and nurses at Providence Hospital who took such wonderful care of him. A joint memorial service for Art and his son, Craig Ames, will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Crossroads Assembly of God in Anchorage at noon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the youth hockey association of your choice.
