Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Kenneston Chandler, 64, wife of C.D. Chandler, Nashville Terminals foreman, and member of a distinguished family of educators, were conducted at her home, 1109 Petway Avenue at 11 a.m. Saturday by Dr. Dayton A. Dobbs. The body was removed to Washington for burial in Rock Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at her home, following an illness of four days.
She was born in Ripon, Wis., and was the daughter of David Kenneston, a professor of Oberlin College, Oberlin, 0., and a granddaughter of James F. Fairchild, for many years president of the institution.
Mrs. Chandler received her education in Oberlin and was a graduate of Oberlin College. By an earlier marriage, Mrs. Chandler had a son who died and adopted a daughter who survives her, Mrs. Mary Hickok, wife of the writer Guy Hickok of Norwalk, Conn. In 1907 she was married to Mr. Chandler. She removed to Nashville following her second marriage and had resided here for the last eighteen years.
Mrs. Chandler was known for her deep interest in orphans and the work of orphanages and was a member of the board of managers of the Harding Home, a Presbyterian orphanage here. She was a member of the Russell-Street Presbyterian Church and took an active part in church work.
She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Besides her husband and adopted daughter, three daughters Ruth Chandler and Mrs. Pearl Snell of Nashville, and Mrs. Edna Bergstrom of Port Huron, Mich.; a son, Earl Chandler of Calgary, Alberta; and ten grandchildren survive her.
