Gordon Max 'Gordie' Walcott was the son of
Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Connell (1912-2000) and Richard A. Walcott (1910-1985).

Gordie graduated form USAF Pilot Training at Bryan AFB, Bryan, Texas. While in training he flew the T-34, T-28 and T-33.

From the Eagle, Bryan, TX , July 5, 1959:
"Miss Billie Murphy became the bride of 2nd Lt. Gordon Walcott on June 23, 1959 in the Base Chapel at Etaine, France. They will honey moon in Switzerland. Later they will go to Germany for 30 days where Lt. Walcott will be on temporary duty. Lt. Walcott is a jet pilot with the U. S. Air Force and will be stationed in Europe for two more years. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Walcott of Whitney, Nebraska. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Murphy, 2206 Old Hearne Road, Bryan."

He was a Captain when he graduated from the F-105 Operational Training Course at Nellis ABF, Las Vegas, Nevada on November 5, 1963. In December 1963, he was assigned to the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, Itazuke AB, Japan. The 80th TFS later moved to Yakota AB, Japan. By December 27, 1964 the 80th TFS was deployed to Korat RTAFB, Thailand with their F-105D's.

On July 27, 1965, Gordie flew in Operation Spring High as Corvette 4 on a strike against SAM site 7 near Hanoi. In the infinite stupidity of the powers to be, Corvette flight was carrying BLU-27, unfinned Napalm, which had to be delivered in level flight. Everyone in Corvette flight returned, however six of the 52 F-105 that engaged the two SAM sites that day did not return. He completed his 100th combat ‘counter’ mission in the F-105D on September 30, 1966.

After attending Wild Weasel training at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada, he arrived at 17th Wild Weasel Squadron, Korat RTAFB, Thailand in October 1973. On October 23, 1973 he became the Assistant Operations Officer. On August 29, 1974 be became the Squadron Commander of 17th Wild Weasel Squadron, Korat RTAFB. On November 3, 1974, Gordie departed Korat in the last F-105G in the deployment back to George AFB, Victorville, California. He remained as the Squadron Commander until November 15, 1974 when the squadron was deactivated. He accumulated a total of 1522.3 hours in the F-105.

Lt. Colonel Gordon M. Walcott, US Air Force of Austin, Texas, took his last flight March 8, 2016. He is son of Richard A. and Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ (Connell) Walcott of Whitney. Gordon is survived by his wife Billie, sons Chad and Roland, daughter Paige Taylor and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn M. Bickford in 2015. Gordon was buried at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
