1.) FAYETTE COLE
Fayette Vernon Cole was born December 5, 1893, in Bazine, Kansas. He was the first of eight children born to Jacob and Sarah Cole.

The family heard and responded to the Gospel while living in Kansas. In response to their faith and desire to participate in building Zion, the family moved to Lamoni, Iowa, when Fayette was seventeen. He attended Graceland College and then was employed as a printer in the Herald Publishing House.

He was married to Mable Frances Adair on Christmas eve, December 24th, 1914. To this marriage, five children were born. One daughter, Sharon Marie, died in childhood.

Because of ill health, it became necessary for Fayette to leave the employment of the Herald House and move to Wyoming. The family took a homestead north of Oshoto, Wyoming, in 1919. There they established a ranch along the Little Missouri River. They were joined there by Mrs. Cole's brother, Lester Adair who shared with them as a member of the family and assisted them on the ranch.

A number of other Latter Day Saint families settled in the same general area and soon a Sunday School and later a branch was organized. Fayette and his wife were instrumental in helping the church become established in that area. He was ordained there to the office of teacher and then to the office of Elder and served several years as Bishop's Solicitor for the branch.

In 1940 the family returned to Lamoni and settled on a farm west of town. Three years later he attempted to retire but found retirement too much of a life of ease. Therefore he took a job at the Lamoni Creamery where he worked ten years and then farmed again for a while before finally retiring a second time.

He passed away October 23, 1972, at the Decatur County Hospital In Leon, Iowa.

Fayette is survived by his wife, Mable, two daughters, Mrs. Arthea Stevenson of Larnceil, Ia., and Roberta Elliott of Webster City, Ia., two sons, Elbert of Temple, Texas, and Clifford of Blue Springs, Mo., three brothers, Lloyd of Mt. Ayr, Ia., Walter of Lamoni, and Ross of Camanche, Ia., two sisters, Goldie Strong of Lamoni, and Mrs. Orpha Lorance of Shenandoah, Ia., nineteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
